Have you found your face shape? Here’s how to find the right hairstyle using your face shape as a guide…
Hairstyles for women over 50: Round Face

There are several round-faced women over 50 who have amazing hairstyles. For example, Katie Couric (62) and Queen Latifah (49) are both super stylish. But it isn’t always easy!
Unfortunately, women with round faces usually dislike that their facial features are so close together. That’s why most women with round faces aim to choose hairstyles that elongate their face.
If chosen correctly, hairstyles can make the face look longer. For instance, long hairstyles draw the eye down and make the face look longer.
Long, layered looks and lobs (long bobs) bring attention away from the roundness of the face. On the other hand, short hairstyles- like pixie cuts- do the opposite! But this isn’t a bad thing!
Instead of drawing attention away from the face, this short hairstyle for women over 50 does a great job of balancing out the face. However, if you decide to go short, keep your pixie cut longer on the sides and textured. The key to short hairstyles is to add weight, not volume.

Additionally, side bangs, face framing layers, and slightly off-center parts are all quite flattering on round faces. Slightly off-center parts are great because they draw the eye down, which makes the face seem longer. Side bangs and face framing layers bring attention to the right features and help give a youthful glow.
But whatever you do, avoid these top three mistakes: heavy bangs, chin-length haircuts, and round hairstyles. All of these hairstyles will only make your face look more circular.
Hairstyles for women over 50: Oval Face

The oval face shape is typically considered to be the “ideal” face shape. This is because nearly any hairstyle looks fantastic on an oval face! Strong women like Cindy Crawford (53) and Michelle Obama (55) have rocked several different flattering hairstyles.
There are three tips to keep in mind when picking a hairstyle for an oval face shape. First, be sure your hairstyle doesn’t hide your face. After all, you have the ideal face shape! You should show it off!
Second, avoid flat and long hairstyles. These styles will make your face look too long. Third, use your hairstyle to highlight your favorite facial features!
How? Well, steer clear of chunky or blunt bangs, which conceal too much of the face. Then just be sure to add layers to your hairstyle so your face doesn’t look too long.
Aside from these two caveats, women with oval faces can rock any 2019 hairstyle for women over 50! From short pixie cuts to blunt bobs to long flowing locks, women with oval faces can pull off just about any look.

Hairstyles for women over 50: Heart Face

Two of the most talented entertainers, Halle Berry (53) and Jennifer Lopez (50), are fabulous women over 50. Their heart-shaped faces are easily recognizable.
While the round and oval face shapes can be quite similar, it’s easy to spot a heart-shaped face. Heart-shaped faces have protruding chins that tend to be the focal point of their entire face.
Women with heart-shaped faces should find a hairstyle that makes the lower half of their face look fuller. For instance, hairstyles for women over 50 that call attention away from the forehead while accentuating the cheekbones are ideal.
Two of the best hairstyles for women over 50 with heart-shaped faces are pixie cuts and layered chin-length bobs.
However, be wary of any hairstyles that add too much volume or slick your hair back. These looks will make your chin stick out even more instead of balancing your face.

Hairstyles for women over 50: Square Shape

Both actresses were able to find hairstyles that softened the sharp angles of their faces. Want to know their secrets? First, they both have long, flowy hairstyles that make them look ultra feminine.
If you have a square face, lobs and other long hairstyles tend to look best. Second, they added soft, round layers. Many women with square faces also like adding long side bangs and waves to their hair.
However, women over 50 with square faces should steer clear of harsh hairstyles- like blunt bangs and chin-length bobs- and anything too short. These looks will enhance the sharp angles of their face instead of softening them.

My hairstyle
One of the best ways for women over 50 to look younger is by picking the right hairstyle. This is one of my best anti-aging tips! I have always enjoyed having long hair, but had to refresh my style as I aged.

As you can see, I kept my long length, but decided to add face framing layers in the front and a few longer layers in the back. I also added side bangs and face framing highlights. This hairstyle accomplishes two things.
First, the loose waves from the layers help my face look fuller. Second, the bangs and highlights draw attention to my favorite features- my eyes and cheekbones.
I hope you found this guide to finding the right hairstyle by face shape as a woman over 50 helpful!

I think I’d say I have an oval face. My hair is very dark brown, almost black, with large wavy curls, about 6 inches down from the shoulder. It’s styled in long layers right now. Every day I pull it back with a head band because it’s easy and easier to control. I also have a LOT of grey hair which I am coloring about every 4-5 weeks. I need a change! Any suggestions?
