Top 7 Age Related Dreams Explained!

Have you ever had age related dreams? Have you ever had a dream about getting older, losing your teeth, feeling sick, falling, sagging skin, or loneliness?

Although these age related dreams may apply to any age group, we may be more inclined to take them more seriously as we are getting older.

The good news is that our dreams are not literal. For example, dreaming of getting old could mean you are gaining wisdom, which is a good thing.Dreams have been used as a tool to decipher life’s biggest questions since before recorded history.

Ancient mystics used dreams to help people find answers, maybe as a clairvoyant riddle about what was just beyond, and philosophers have used what we dream about to help us understand how our minds work.

Sigmund Freud famously described dreams as a ‘road to the unconscious’ and it’s a tantalising prospect to consider that understanding of our mind is just an 8-hour sleep away.

Top 7 Age Related Dreams

There has always been a curious fascination with the ethereal realm of sleep and where our mind goes when we drift off.

What images we see and how they might relate to our lives, what clues they may give us to help us better navigate through.

But, as with anything ethereal and unexplainable, the general consensus from ‘those in the know’ is that no, dreams don’t ascribe meaning to our lives. That being said, it doesn’t necessarily mean that they don’t either.

Interpreting age related dreams and what they really mean, whether it seems silly or absurd, is a great tool for self-reflection and introspection.

Waking up with a nagging feeling from a particularly vivid dream warrants perhaps a little more of your time and consideration. Understanding what it may mean could bring a little comfort and solace, even for a minute or two.

These are 7 of the top age related dreams we experience and what dream interpreters believe they mean.

#1 Dreams about getting old

Age Related Dreams Explained

Wisdom is usually associated with age, and so too is it true in dreams. Dream experts say that if you see yourself getting older or see old people in your dreams, it means you are getting smarter about something.

Seeing yourself age may also indicate you feeling a need for more experience to overcome a particular hurdle.

In dreams, it’s important to take note of how you feel towards a particular situation, particularly as ageing.

Positive feelings generally represent ease and flow of emotion while feelings of unease and can be indicative of rigidity or rejection.

#2 Dreams about your skin

Dreams Explained

Your skin is your protection and a major part of your outward appearance. Dreaming of your skin can be representative of how you see yourself and how you think others see you.

Positive feelings and strong skin usually indicate a strong sense of self and inversely fragile skin or unflattering blemishes can indicate fragility and low self-esteem.

#3 Dreams about loneliness

Dreams of loneliness can be representative of a feeling of being misunderstood and misrepresented.

Loneliness in a dream can also be a manifestation of rejection and a feeling of lack of understanding form those around you.

#4 Dreams about illness

Dreams about illness usually relate to a waking unease. The manifestation of illness in our sleeping mind can be a sign there is something causing you distress and taking up too much of your mental capacity.

Take time to mediate and locate the cause of distress so you can better eliminate it from your life.

Age Dreams

#5 Dreams about teeth falling out

Dreams of teeth falling out are one of the most common we experience, so much so that Freud devoted a lot of time to discussing at length their meaning.

Freud believed that the teeth represented sexual desire and the loss of teeth meant a sexual repression, though of course this interpretation may not resonate with everyone.

Teeth falling out in a dream may also represent growth and maturity as well as reinvigorated strength.

When we are young and lose our teeth, this marks a clear transition period and may be the subconscious mind’s way of manifesting growth in a way we will understand.

#6 Dreams about falling

You may have experienced the ‘trip’ sensation when drifting off to sleep that jolts you awake momentarily.

This physiological sensation is a result of shifted equilibrium in the body as the nervous system slows down. This is completely normal and can be explained with fact.

The meaning behind actually falling in your dream, though, is a little hazier but can clue you in on a situation where you feel out of control in your waking life.

It’s important to address these situations if they arise to put your subconscious mind at ease.

#7 Dreams about running out of time

Dreams about running out of time can often leave an imprint that follows you into waking life to set you on edge for the rest of the day.

These dreams can be symbolic of a fear about a new path you are following in life or could quite literally be the manifestation of your genuine fear of not being able to get everything done.

As a side note, It’s never too late to start, and there will always be time for you to achieve what it is you need to. Know that you are in exactly the right spot right now and you have everything you need to succeed.

Age Related Dreams: In Conclusion

Dreams are confusing, to say the least, and it’s often a tricky task trying to put them together in a way that makes any kind of sense.

What’s most important about our dreaming state is the underlying feeling associated with whatever it is we are dreaming about. This will clue us in more than anything else on a dreams meaning and how we can relate it to waking life.

One thing that is really helpful is to place a dream journal beside your bed, and as soon as you wake up, write down your dream in as much detail as you can.

Even if the don’t make sense, write them down anyway and it can help you find answers to things that are worrying you in day-to-day life. If you’d like to continue reading about dreams, here is a really great book that can help you unpack even further.

Our dreams can be a helpful tool in helping us to uncover and unpack our feelings, our wants and desires, and our thoughts. Take it all with a grain of salt, however, and trust your intuition.
